Cribbage JD

Cribbage JD is a timeless card game, also known by other names such as Crib, Cribble, and Noddy. Traditionally designed for two players, this game revolves around creating specific card combinations to accumulate points. A cribbage board is used to track the score throughout the game.

Scoring

The Starter

The player seated to the left of the dealer cuts the undealt portion of the deck, ensuring at least four cards remain, while the dealer reveals the top card—referred to as the \"starter\" or \"cut\"—placing it face-up on top of the deck. (It is prohibited to peek at other cards in the deck during this process.) If the starter card is a Jack, the dealer earns two points for \"his heels,\" also known as \"nibs.\" The game can end if the dealer cuts a Jack.

The Play (Pegging)

During the play, players earn points not only for the last card played but also by meeting certain conditions based on the following rules:

• fifteen-twos: two points for creating a total of fifteen
• runs:
  • three points for completing a run of three cards, regardless of the order in which they are played (e.g., a 6, 4, and 5 form a run of three cards even if not laid sequentially)
  • four points for a run of four cards
  • five points for a run of five cards
  • six points for a run of six cards
  • seven points for completing a seven-card run (e.g., 2, 4, 6, A, 3, 5, 7)
• pairs:
  • two points for a pair of matching cards
  • six points for a \"pair royal\" or \"trips\" (three matching cards)
  • twelve points for a \"double pair royal\" or \"quad\" (four matching cards)

The Show

After the play phase concludes, each player calculates the points based on their hand. Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, players lay out their cards and score according to the following combinations with their four cards and the starter card:

• fifteen-twos: two points for each combination of cards summing to exactly fifteen
• runs:
  • three points for a run of three consecutive cards (ignoring suit)
  • four points for a run of four cards
  • five points for a run of five cards
• pairs:
  • two points for a pair
  • six points for three matching cards (pair royal)
  • twelve points for four matching cards (double pair royal)
• flush:
  • four points for a flush, where all four cards in the hand are of the same suit, with an additional point if the starter card matches the same suit
• one for his nob: one point for having the Jack of the same suit as the starter card
• Note that while the dealer\'s hand may score a flush, the crib cannot score a four-card flush, although it can score a five-card flush if the starter card is of the same suit.
